home> Employability projectAmongst the government’s initiatives within Higher Education is a drive to increase the employability of our graduates. One of the bodies helping promote this initiative is the LTSN and through funding made available from the LTSN Generic Centre our Subject Centre has successfully bid for funds for the 2002/03 session. There is a lot of collaboration on employability with the other Subject Centres but with a specific focus for the needs of the physical sciences. The overall aims of our employability project include the awareness-raising of the issues relating to employability skills development and collating and disseminating resources of relevance to the physical science community. In addition, we aim to customise existing resources for use in the physical sciences and develop additional resources which can be embedded into the curriculum. Employability card sort exerciseAs part of this work we have produced an employability card sort exercise that helps students prioritise their activities. The exercise is web-based but can equally be produced in paper format. Students should undertake this exercise with help and support from their tutor. The exercise is very easy to use and there are a few support notes for lecturers to help put the exercise into context for their students. The exercise is free to use and can be run on stand-alone PCs as well as across the Internet. To access the notes click here for html version or here for pdf version (requires Acrobat Reader v4 or later) To run the card sort exercise click here If you would like a copy for use with your students please contact Paul Chin Further linksAs this project develops, further resources will become available but here are a few starting points to find out more about employability Our employability briefing paper and toolkit Generic Centre employability work http://www.ltsn.ac.uk/genericcentre/index.asp?id=17224&
